Islam Cupi

“Fenerbahce’s greatness is neither championships nor trophies; it’s a different kind of greatness, unexplainable...”

The original Turkish version of the above quote can be found engraved on the walls of Sukru Saracoglu stadium, the club training facilities and several other associations with Fenerbahce.

This famous quote and many examples like it belong to legendary writer, and passionate Fenerbahce supporter, the late Islam Cupi.

Islam Cupi was born in the Albanian capital of Tiran in 1932.  His professional career began as a sport journalist for Son Havadis newspaper in Turkey.  Tenures at Turkiye Spor, Yeni İstanbul, Aksam, Tercuman followed before his final, and perhaps most popular, post at Milliyet.

The popular writer was the author of a number of books and thousands of newspaper columns devoting his love and appreciation for Fenerbahce.

Sadly Islam Cupi passed away on 6 February 2001, aged 69.  To mark the 7th anniversary of his death, he was remembered by his grave side today by his wife Ayse Cupi and daughter Deniz Cupi along with a number of other friends and relatives.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the great Islam Cupi and his family.   He will never be forgotten.
