Here is the second and final part of what the new Fenerbahce boss had to say... There are differences in opinion regarding your preferred tactical formation from what we understand you like to play 4-1-4-1, is this fair to say? We could play various tactical formations depending on circumstances but I prefer not to comment in depth. During 90 minutes several things will change and when your full-backs push on you could be left with 2 defenders at the back which will affect the positioning of the midfield players. Our system will not be fixed and could change depending on who we play as well. For example, I have used Ilhan Parlak and Mateja Kezman in midfield which is not their usual positions but I want to try different players in new positions to keep my options open. Anyway, all systems can hold two-to-three modifications and I will keep changing things as and when I feel it to be necessary.
During Camp it was reported that you received an offer from a Spanish club, would you like to comment on this? There is no need. I have a contract with Fenerbahce and I am here.
During your career teams that you have previously managed always appear to make you new offers. What is your secret? There is no secret per se. My age would tell you that I have been in football for a long time. I worked at these clubs and the time factor presented new opportunities which I accepted. When you are winning and things go your way everything becomes easier. I would like this to be the case here as I want to stay at Fenerbahce for as long as possible.
Injuries to Deivid de Souza and Gokcek Vederson have caused upset. Have these set-backs disrupted your plans? Whilst unfortunate and upsetting, injuries are part and parcel of football. We will persevere as planned without any changes and wait for them to rejoin us.
We see that you have good personal dialogue with the players. Your support of Deivid during his time of need was admirable. We have experienced two very unfortunate developments with Deivid following his injury and the untimely death of his mother. I spoke with Deivid and shared some personal experiences with him, but I am not the only one. His team-mates are also rallying around him and trying to cheer him up. It is important for everyone in the team to stick together in times like this.
We are days away from the Champions League qualifier with MTK. Despite how friendlies are viewed fans often look out for scores as an indicator of how things are progressing. Do you have a message for them? MTK is a team I take seriously and think the fixture will be a tough one. I cannot tell the fans to relax because MTK are also playing for the same goal as us which gives an indication of what we can expect. What we will do is go into this game with only the intention of winning and if we can do this, we should progress into the next round.
Thank you for answering our questions, is there anything else you would like to add? There is not much more left to say. Me and my technical staff will do our utmost to ensure we challenge for the Turkish league title and improve on last season’s Champions League campaign.
