Turkish sources today report Kocaelispor are interested in loaning Fenerbahce midfielder Claudio Maldonado for next season.

The newly promoted Turkcell Super Lig club are in the hunt for a defensive midfielder and want to capitalise on Fenerbahce’s current squad dilemma of too many foreign players.  The Canaries’ have 9 non-Turkish players on their books against a maximum quota of 8.

Maldonado joined the Istanbul giants just 6 months ago but has failed to impress since arriving from Brazilian club Santos.  The Chilean international is hoping for a better season but may not get the opportunity as Luis Aragones has not given him too many opportunities in the 3 preseason games played so far.

The Bank Asya League A champions want to strengthen their squad and consolidate their position in the top flight.  Manager Engin Ipekoglu, a former Fenerbahce goalkeeper, has identified Maldonado as the anchorman to help fill their void and is hopeful a deal may go through in the coming days.

avatar i'm still not sure if I want him to leave, unless we have a really good replacement. but Kocaeli is the closest "big" team to my dads town so it would be nice to see him there.

avatar Wow, Engin is the manager at Kocaeli? I didn't know that.

Someone is going to get dissapointed with one foreigner leaving, and the only logical moves are Kezman and Moldonado. One argument for Moldonado, is he is in a position without a lot of proven depth. Kezman has Semih and Guiza 'in front' of him, so might be more expendable. But there doesn't seem to be an opportunity to offload Kezman like there is for Moldonado.

I like the idea of him being loaned out, getting used to Turkish football, then being a stud for FB in 2009-2010

avatar Kocaelispor? I'd feel slightly insulted if I were Maldonado judging on the reputation he had in the Brazilian league.

avatar Well I think he was past his prime when he moved to Fenerbahce.

I just hope he isn't stubborn and thinks he is too good for smaller teams, I mean the big teams wouldn't consider signing him.
