Alex de Souza jumped to the defence of his new boss telling critics, “Forget age look at his work.”

Luis Aragones is yet to set foot in Turkey but the knives are out already.  In fact the blade sharpening began shortly after his name was first linked with Fenerbahce and gathered momentum after the official announcement last week.

Many of Aragones’s doubters are citing age as the main concern claiming he has past it despite the 69-year-old leading Spain to their first trophy since 1962 just yesterday.

This view has prompted Alex to air his view on the matter.  The Fenerbahce Captain insists the age of his new coach, nicknamed ‘Granddad’, will not prevent him from being successful at the club.

“Aragones is healthy and capable so what's the problem?  He coached the champions of Euro 2008 to glory helping them win their first trophy in 44 years.  I congratulate him and Spain on this great achievement” he said.

The Brazilian playmaker then commented on preparations for the 2008-2009 season which started yesterday.  “We have begun our pre-season training campaign and are fully aware of how much this will benefit us during the course of the year.  It is vital that we prepare well as we have an important season ahead of us.”
