Tomorrow is the day we find out which team Fenerbahce will face in the 2nd preliminary round of the Champions League.

The Yellow Canaries are seeded for the matches scheduled to be played on 30 July and 6 August.

The potential opponents are:

NK Domzale: Champions of Slovenia.  Won the league with an impressive 12 point gap.

B Jerusalem: Back-to-back Champions of Israel.

MTK: Hungarian Champions famously knocked Fenerbahce out of Europe in 1997.

IFK Gothenburg: Last season’s Swedish Champion.  Currently in 4th place this season

Anorthosis Famagusta: Champions of Southern Cyprus.  Eliminated Trabzonspor 4 years ago.

Tampere United:  Last season’s Finnish Champion.  Currently in 11th place this year.

Dinamo Tiflis:  Champions of Georgia.

Ventspils:  Back-to-back Champions of Latvia.

Rabotnicki:  Champions of Macedonia

Modrica:  Bosnian Champions.

Kaunas: Giants of Lithuanian football.  Have an impressive 7 title wins in 8 seasons.

Sheriff:  Serial Moldovan Champions with 8 straight title wins.  Shot down by Beşiktaş last season.

Drogheda:  Irish Champions last season but currently in 5th place after parting ways with 9 players.

Valur: Last season’s Icelandic Champions.  Currently in 8th place this season.

At first glance none of the above teams would appear to be banana skins but as Turkish football has witnessed in years gone by, underestimating a European opponent can have embarrassing consequences.
