Mehmet Aurelio will be at Fenerbahce next season after the club has exercised its right to extend the current agreement for another year.

The Turkey international signed a 2+1 year contract extension in the Summer of 2006 after having been at the club for 3 seasons previously.

In a website article criticising Aurelio’s agent Bayram Tutumlu the club has revealed that an official approach to utilise the one year extension option has been made to the Turkish Football Association (TFF).  The TFF has approved the application so Aurelio will remain a Fenerbahce player for a sixth consecutive season.

Many newspapers have recently reported on Bayram Tutumlu holding a series of meetings with a number of clubs on behalf of his client.  Sports daily Fanatik today claimed the agent has also been in discussions with arch rivals Galatasaray telling them the 30 year old will be out of contract in June.

In the announcement published on Fenerbahce.org Bayram Tutumlu was reminded of his signature at the bottom of the original agreement and was invited to honour its terms and conditions.  Failure to do so will result in the club utilising legal rights and taking the matter to the TFF and if necessary football’s governing body, FIFA.

Some of you may remember that Bayram Tutumlu is also Tuncay Sanli’s agent and played a pivotal role in ensuring his move to English club Middlesbrough went through.

avatar This is far from over, Bayram Tutumlu still holds some cards and he will look to use them to his advantage.

Aurelio can still take out the option to break his current contract for a small fee under FIFA regulations. The rule states that a player over the age of 28 can break their current contract two (2) years after it commenced, for a fee that equals the value of the rest of the contract.

In short, Aurelio can still walk away from Fenerbahce in June by paying compensation to the amount of one (1) years wages.

avatar Very true!! If a club is willing to buy out Aurelio's contract he can leave. I am guessing that the current value is around 1.5M Euros (his annual salary) which for someone of Aurelio's quality is very good value for money.
