Fenerbahce striker Mateja Kezman has pledged to give it his all in the Turkcell Super Lig showdown against Galatasaray on Sunday.

The Serbian forward had a disappointing start to the season by his standards finding the net just once in eleven starts.  He was then out with injury for a while and returned in emphatic form, netting double figures and averaging almost one per game.  However, things have gone a little off the boil for him recently.

Kezman was left out of the starting line up in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea and missed a crucial late penalty against Ankaraspor costing his team precious points.  The 28 year old was finally given a start in the last match versus Denizlispor but missed a hatful of chances, including an open goal, before scoring his 12th of the season.

That goal seems to have injected a new lease of confidence in the goal ace who says, “The Denizlispor match was different for me.  I missed chances that I would not normally but kept on going and scored a wonderful goal.  My teammates respect my endeavour and were with me after the penalty miss against Ankaraspor.  Their attention and support was paramount to me as was the phenomenal backing I got from the Fenerbahce fans.  I will never forget that.”

After Alex, Aurelio and Semih, Kezman was also asked for his views on the upcoming derby clash with Galatasaray.  “From my side I promise to do the best I possibly can.  There isn’t much that can be said about the Galatasaray game, everyone is already aware of how important this game is.  It is the biggest derby in Turkish football and the winners will probably become champions.  We believe in ourselves because we are the better team.  The only thing we must do is battle.  For the entire 90 minutes – battle, battle and battle.  We have to play with spirit and determination; the rest will take care of itself.”

Just in case anyone was to question Kezman’s goal scoring appetite he had this to say, “I have scored a lot of derby goals in my career and hope to continue this on Sunday and make our fans happy.”
