The Central Refereeing Committee (MHK) has assigned Firat Aydinus the unenviable task of officiating the penultimate championship decider between bitter rivals Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

The MHK appear to have plenty of faith in their man.  Aydinus has refereed more Turkcell Super Lig games than any other official this season, taking charge of 18 matches.

Incidentally this will be Aydinus's 11th Istanbul derby over a 4 year span and the THIRD time he will be officiating a match between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray this season.

2004-05:   
Beşiktaş-Fenerbahçe: 2-1    
Galatasaray-Beşiktaş: 1-0    

2005-06:     
Beşiktaş-Fenerbahçe: 1-2    
Beşiktaş-Galatasaray: 1-2    

2006-07:   
Beşiktaş-Galatasaray: 2-1    
Beşiktaş-Fenerbahçe: 1-0 (Fortis Turkey Cup semi-final 1st leg)    
Beşiktaş-Fenerbahçe: 0-1    

2007-08:

Fenerbahçe-Beşiktaş: 2-1 (Turkey Super Cup)
Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray: 2-0
Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray: 0-0 (Fortis Turkey Cup quarter-final 1st leg)

Firat Aydinus has increased in popularity over recent years, although he has been subjected to slightly more criticism this season.  He is a respected referee known for communicating openly with players yet being stern where necessary. 

From the current crop of referees available, Aydinus would appear to be the correct choice for the derby showdown.
