In his regular FBTV program slot Alex de Souza confirmed that he and his teammates will be playing to win the Derby Showdown on Sunday evening.

A draw is enough for Fenerbahce to maintain their Turkcell Super Lig leadership status but the Captain verified that this has no bearing on match preparations.  Come kickoff time the players will have one thing on their minds, ‘3 points!’

“As we have beaten Galatasaray already this season we know a draw will keep us above them and provide an advantage for the 2 remaining games.  However, all our planning and preparation is not around a draw, we will approach this game like we did against Besiktas and play to win.  If things do not go our way for whatever reason we will not forget that a draw is also a valuable result to us”, he said.

Asked about the hostile atmosphere at Ali Sami Yen last Alex commented, “These things do not faze me.  I am sure the Galatasaray fans will create a carnival like atmosphere and do their utmost to have a positive impact on their team without resorting to things outside of football.  They will watch the battle of two strong teams and all I care about is how we come out on top.  Outside of this, nothing else concerns me.”

Fenerbahce have had the better of their arch rivals in recent seasons and the Brazilian this is down to player psychology, “You must approach these games mindful of the bigger picture and have a clear idea of which opponents are in your way.  When facing these opponents you must raise your concentration levels and leave the rest down to quality.  We will be playing away on Sunday and our rivals will have home support so naturally our focus will be based on all these factors.”

Just in case anyone was in doubt regarding the size of task, Alex sums it up perfectly, “This will be the first time I will be playing in a derby with so much at stake.”
