 Fenerbahçe host Denizlispor on Saturday 19 April for match 31 of the season. The game kicks off at 19:00 local time (GMT+2) and anglofeb.com users can follow the live action play-by-play on Match Tracker.
The Yellow Canaries still top the table on goal difference despite dropping 2 points following late drama against Ankaraspor last week. Mateja Kezman missed a golden opportunity to extend a 2-1 lead from the spot in the 88th minute and Mehmet Yilmaz made him and Fenerbahce pay by equalizing with the last kick of the game.
The Kadikoy club play a day before Galatasaray hoping to see off the Denizli Cockerels and then wait for Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesispor to do them a favour against their title rivals.
Zico has a few selection headaches ahead of this vital game. Roberto Carlos has been ruled out for the rest of the season and Gokcek Vederson is suspended so Ugur Boral may be drafted in at left back. Goalkeeper Volkan Demirel is not 100% fit but Serdar Kulbilge is a more than capable deputy as he has proven in recent weeks. Another concern for the Fenerbahce coach is that Edu, Alex and Semih are all a yellow card away from suspension. With the Galatasaray derby to follow this game Zico will not want any more of his stars unavailable for selection. Denizlispor are positioned 8th on 39 points. The green and black side is going through a dip in form having lost 3 out of the last 4 matches and also has internal issues between players and management. However that should not mean that this game will be an easy ride and the Cockerels have proven to be a thorn in Fenerbahce’s side in recent seasons, none more so than the Canaries dramatic title loss 2 seasons ago. The last meeting between the sides ended with a 1-0 Yellow Canaries’ victory with Ali Bilgin netting the only goal at Denizli Ataturk Stadium.
