Fenerbahce defender Diego Lugano has began counting down the days to Saturday's Championship crunch match with Istanbul rivals Besiktas.

Fenerbahce are 2 points clear of their fellow title challengers after beating Kasimpasa 3-0 and seeing the Black Eagles lose 2-1 at Istanbul Buyuksehir Belediyesispor.  A Fenerbahce victory at Inonu will further open the gap and serve a huge blow to the black-and-white teams hopes of winning their first league championship in 5 years.

The Uruguay captain is currently taking a short break in Cappadocia but took some time out to answer press questions relating to the derby.  "The Besiktas game has the potential to untangle the title knot.  We as a team are very used to playing matches of such significance and will go into this one prepared.  Hopefully we will beat them at their own ground and go another step closer to winning the league."

Diego Lugano has revealed his intention of staying at Fenerbahce despite increasing rumours that he has reached an agreement with Italian giants Juventus.  "I am very happy at Fenerbahce and this isn't solely applicable to me but all of my teammates as well.  To have my name linked with a club of Juventus' stature is very flattering, but if you are playing well in tournaments such as the Champions League this type of speculation is not unusual.  At the moment I have not received any offers and I must stress once again that I am very happy at my club."

It is very reassuring to hear those words ahead of such a crucial match.
